Below are some links to entertain you, while I get around to blogging something here (which may never happen)...

Comigo - A Brazilian music event I just found after finishing this podcast, so it didn't get mentioned, is taking place in Aoyama from 5:00 p.m. this Sunday.

Mayutan - A Tokyo musician & artist who I saw perform in Osaka back in 2004, or 2005, apparently had a show yesterday.  She keeps a blog full of colorful photos and videos (in Japanese).

Liz - Has recently merged all her various Japan bloggings back onto her original Transit Lounge homepage.

Ady - Is always posting cool Japan photos on facebook via his posterous blog.

Podcast intro & outro music by Seaholm.

...has it?

Warning: Watch your volume on this one! There are a couple of clunking sounds that might hurt your eardrums if you're wearing headphones.

Graphic:  As reported, Life Is Random will be joining a bunch of Tokyo artists in Shibuya for a group art show called Kira Kira.  This will be Random's Tokyo debut.

Here's another link about the subway/train line, which I've mentioned several times that passes through our neighborhood.  It's the line which we use to get into Shibuya and to the rest of Tokyo.

Ooops!  I guess Großen Teich is not just any old pond, it just refers to the Atlantic, not the Pacific.  Too bad, it's staying on as part of the title.  You see, just as a little English is a dangerous thing (as proven by all the funny T-shirt messages one sees in Japan), so is a little bit of German equally dangerous!  So is a little bit of Japanese!

Over in Cambridge, Patrick must be reading my mind (or at least watching my playlists on YouTube).  His first two songs on this month's Headstand Radio were featured on numerous mix tapes of mine back in the day--Step On by The Happy Mondays, and Hit by The Sugurcubes--and his third song is Berlin by Semtazone, a band I first heard live here in Tokyo a couple years back (please watch our Semtazone interivew and subsequent NFTOS Talk Show #?).

As I am typing this post, Patrick announces Tour de France by Kraftwerk!  ...TOUR DE FRANCE!!

...You have to love it when he introduces the next song by knowingly advising, "and I must warn you, this song contains some strong language."

More links and stuff coming soon!  (Yeah right)

Hans is on his honeymoon, so for the moment, all cycling geeks should refer to Tokyo Panic Living (this here podcast) rather than Bicicleteiros, our usual cycling installation, for all the latest cycling goss and commentary.

One week to go 'til the News From The Other Side art show & party!

On the phone were Tom a.k.a. Stone River and Brad a.k.a. Goldhorn--recorded without express consent, although at least Stone knows the routine by now.  The mic is always on, and besides, he rang me.  The lads just got back from their cycling adventure up into the Tohoku region, and maybe even made it up around Hokkaido, but we'll just have to wait for more details.

In the meantime, you can read about their trip which has been mapped out here:

http://learnjapanesepod.com/stones-tour-de-japan/

Music intro and outro by John a.k.a. Momiji.

More details and links coming soon!

Bon jour tout le monde,

This is a work in progress.  I'll be back with more links and stuff (stop me, if you've heard that before).

Here's a link to Japan Pod Show, the podcast I mentioned at the start of this podcast:

http://pokya.jp/japanpodshow/

...and here's the "back side" Kihira and Mieko's i-flyer for Saturday night's event.

A tiny elephant stands in your heart working a foot pump... according to Patrick Widdess.

...and here's the haiku I forgot to read at the end of this podcast:

Did I go to far?
I see the crazy statue
with all the faces.

This blog post, titled "Sugi to Sakura" (杉と桜), contains a re-edited .m4a podcast file, featuring intro/outro music by John a.k.a. Momiji!  Please scroll to the bottom of this post and click on it!

The links mentioned in the podcast will be up soon, in the meantime, here are some random links I was going to tell you about, but forgot to check my notes ("...'cos I'm a blond, yeah, yeah, yeah!").

Sangenjaya, the place where I live now, is apparently way less cool than was once perceived, while Jiyugaoka, the place I used to work in, is now number one.  If only I knew then what I know now, I could've basked in the glory of it all!  http://www.japaneconomynews.com/2008/11/21/jiyugaoka-is-tokyos-most-desirable-neighborhood/

"They say lightning never strikes twice."  Wait a minute, who says?!  Statistics show the chances to be quite high actually.  Or at least I seem to remember reading something like that somewhere, but don't quote me on it, just say you think you heard it somewhere too.  That's how urban legends get started...

This guy survived not one, but both atomic apocalypses:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7963581.stm

I find it peculiar how the mainstream media delight in telling racist joke 'news.'  For starters, it shows they can't possibly be as liberal as some accuse them of being, nor as neutral or objective as they make themselves out to be.  Everyone has snickered at an off-color joke at some point in their life--oh, yes, but you were much less enlightened then than you are now--I understand.

They usually start with the news about the uproar, because they would look stoopid if they were just pointing out a joke they found particularly offensive themselves.  So, first they start by pointing out the uproar, and then by reporting on the forthcoming apology and retraction, if they do indeed come.  Finally, what they never forget to include is the joke itself.  You'll never catch me repeating this genre of joke (unless you have a hidden mic), so you'll just have to follow this BBC link for now:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7965058.stm

You really disappoint me!

Dave Barry once wrote a silly slapstick piece about uncircumcision for those who have suffered having their manhood pared at some stage in life (usually when still and infant).  Well, good luck with that.  Now there are some who are requesting debaptism who are apparently somewhat serious about it.  Good luck with that too!  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7941817.stm

Having so conveniently just brought up the male member, here's a rooftop with a penis on it.  (Who needs tabloids when there's the BBC?)  http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/newsbeat/newsid_7961000/7961224.stm

Spotted this one in Nagano over the weekend.  A 'snack' is a type of Japanese bar where the regulars have a 'keep bottle' on the wall with their name on it.  They are usually small, dark and full of cigarette smoke.  You go there, not so much to meet new people, but to hang out with the owner and/or their staff members who light your cigarette, pour your drinks and provide witty conversation at the end of a long day.  See 1.1.1 Snack bars:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostess_club#Snack_bars

It's a sunny Saturday afternoon in Sangengaya, west side of Tokyo, and since the pollen is swirling, I think I'll just sit here in the sunniest corner of the house and record a podcast.

Here's where I'm going to put the links I mentioned (remind me if I forget any, and you come back later and they are still not here).

...and here are the Top 10 podcasts in January and February of this year, in order from #1 to #10:

1.Time to Shine in 2009! with Lizze.
2. Bicicleteiros #48: Tour Down Under preview with Hans.
3. Bicicleteiros #51: Boa Idéia! with Hans.
4. Catching up with Patrick.
5. Bicicleteiros #50: #50!
6. Bicicleteiros #51.2: Ouija Board, Ouija Board with Hans.
7. Of Gadgets and Nanpa with Lizzie.
8. Bicicleteiros #49: Virtual Winner! with Hans.

I had originally posted a collection of YouTube "Latin" videos in honor of the 10 years+ since La Tertulia started, but the first video in the series, one by Lila Downs, has already been disabled upon request (death threats from the drug cartels). Several members of 'La Tertulia' were also the earliest members of the NFTOS community on the now defunct 'MSN Groups' service (Brian a.k.a. The Ruck, Hayden a.k.a. Quest, Hans, Rolf and a few more) and have been NFTOS participants in one way or another since it's inception over 8 years ago now.

La Tertulia is back now, in virtual form at least, on facebook! (Update: We've just started a small group to practice our languages every Sunday afternoon in Tokyo! 26-Mar-2009)

Photo taken from the Facebook community I Japan went to and now English no speaky can do.

This audio podcast contains recorded sounds from my neighborhood, during the day and at night, cycling off into the northwestern suburbs (by accident) and more local brew tasting. Parental guidance advised.

Big shout out to Learn Japanese Pod crew, Alex, Waka and Coffeebot3000 who gave us a shout on their latest show, Fun Friday. Make sure you check out Wes's blog Hiking in Japan which was mentioned on their show.

I've recorded this thing twice and ditched both recordings. Maybe I'll just put up some links for the time being. Some of the links are for the last podcast, which I was having trouble with. The media file kept disappearing every time I tried to edit the text...

☂ YouTube link for Bicicleteiros #36 for the intro music De Puta Madre.
☂ Wikipedia link for Bicicleteiros #36 regarding the Sonoma Desert Toad.
☂ Hans set a Japanese-Italian pronunciation trap for me as Sella tests positive for CERA (CyclingNews link).
☂ YouTube page for Gabriel White who currently has a DVD projection exhibit, Tongdo Fantasia, at OUi boutique in St Kevin's Arcade.
☂ Homepage for today's (Thursday's) event in St Kevin's Arcade, Craftwerk.
☂ A page full of Jet jaguar interviews related to the upcoming CD release party for Apropos of Nothing this Saturday.

This podcast was recorded about 3 weeks ago, but I was unable to upload it because we didn't have internet at home.  This brings to a close almost 2 months of depending on computers and internet at cafes, the library and at work.

I can't remember what it was about now...

...but I'm stuck in an internet cafe waiting for makikomo.com to finish a translation.  What?!  On a Sunny Sunday?  Yes, she does translations, Japanese to English, and English to Japanese.  She'll do them at any hour of the day or night, and if she's doing them into English, that means I'm also in business as a proof-reader.

So, what else is on my mind today?  Why, it's that Tour de France thing, of course.  Can't wait to chat with my brother regarding the latest developments, particularly the rise of Kim Kirchen (Luxembourg) and the demise of former Lance Armstrong lieutenant Manuel 'Triki' Beltrán.

But don't rush to make conclusions they tell us... alleged EPO use in the 1999 Tour, Heras, Hamilton, Landis, Contador and now Beltrán.  Hans will probably be able to name a couple more tainted former Postal/Discovery riders off the top of his head, but don't worry, we are not rushing to conclusions, we're just letting the circumstantial evidence pile up.  Whenever we get around to it, there'll be all that to discuss and more, on another edition of Bicicleteiros

Make sure you tune into it and to my solo podcast, Psychotropic of Capricorn, both of which you can subscribe to separately if you like on iTunes.

It's game day today, All Blacks vs Poms, but first we must have a barbecue and drink some homebrew.

This morning, we went to the Britomart Farmers' Market for some veggies, but the camera battery was dead.  I'll have to take some video footage next time, although the Otara and Avondale Markets we went to before are much bigger and have more of an international feel to them.

Photo coming soon!

Usually I try to steer NFTOS content away from religion and politics, although I let Alex's occasional atheistic profession of faith slip through uncensored, but I forgot to mention one very current issue regarding religion in this podcast, and it concerns Sharon Stone. Someone should issue Eastern Religions' equivalent of a fatwa on her for talking out her self-righteous ass. Maybe she can tell us whose fault it was when Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on New Orleans...

I'm becoming a bit of a hikikomori lately, up at all hours everyone else is not. This allows me to contact those who are awake on the other side. What is a hikikomori you ask? Well, Héctor García can tell you about the phenomena in Spanish and English, so I don't have to. Language nerds, check this out: Geonames. Ever wondered what the name Haiti looks like in every major language in the world? Well, now you can see! Big shout outs to everyone over at LearnJapanesePod forums and at Prapatang.com.

Don't forget to tune into Patrick Widdess' headstand radio tonight from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. GMT (which is early Thursday morning here in NZ) on 209radio.co.uk. The Pixiphones will be playing live in the studio, and there will be poetry recorded specially for the show from Magic Phil, Hollie and Nick Stibbs. Nick will also be talking about the life and work of Walt Whitman.

Now, I'm not very cool, but I know quite a few people who are, in my humble opinion, and one of them reads another "news" blog called boingboing.net. He's always steering me in the direction of interesting tidbits on the net such as this site which helps the US government track Hassan Elahi by Hassan Elahi himself. Meanwhile, on the cartoon front, foyf informs us on ptikobj that, when a half-eaten dog falls from the sky, it's good luck. This reminded me of an old favorite, explodingdog.com. Well, it's time to go back to sleep, but first I must caress this rusty kettle...

...and to the narcos in Narita Airport, no, you can't have your 142g back!

Toto, we are not in Kanto anymore. No more Tokyo Panic Living until further notice!

Here's the poem I read by Patrick Widdess called "Slug":

I do not hear its single foot
slip beneath my bed,
turn dust into silver
and make a soggy doily
of last month’s gas bill.
But the morning sheds light
on its nocturnal wanderings
charted in dry mucus,
its glittering autograph
scrawled across yesterday’s paper.
I set mouse traps with lettuce leaves,
surround my bed with half-empty beer glasses,
scatter pellets like deadly confetti.
I sleep well for a week
then find a survivor;
inch long and mossy green,
relaxing by the radiator.
It’s then I notice the leafy odour,
and the sheepskin rug; tacky underfoot.
I dare not look beneath the bed
but lie awake, ear to the mattress
all night.
At dawn I start to drift
and sense the bed being lifted
on a thousand slithering backs,
doors sliding open, and the morning air;
cold and sharp against my cheek.

"Love is All Around" by the Troggs (and according to Patrick, it was covered by Wet! Wet! Wet! in the 90s as well).

There is a well researched and documented social disorder called the "I'm the Only Gaijin in Japan" Syndrome. Hundreds of foreigners seem to be affected by it, even more so where the concentration of them is the greatest. Those who live in the countryside and actually ARE the only foreigner within miles seem to the least affected by it, and those foreign residents of Japan even go to such lengths as to seek out other foreigners for human company--believe it or not!

We will look into such phenomena among other random things on this podcast...

Did i say "drink fish?" It must be the mercury getting to my brain. Apparently the mercury in blue fin tuna is reaching dangerous levels, according to a newspaper article by Marian Burros (el burro, Equus asinus, heh, heh). In the background, coming at you real low-fi, The Egg's Travelator CD.

Now you can Learn English, Spanish and/or Japanese all at the same time with Alex's new podcast. What's this? Only in Japan... Bug fights!

Painful experiences teaching English in Japan on YouTube. While you're there, make sure to check out my video pimp, and I was trying to think of how to slip a V.I.P. joke in here, but couldn't, so just go check out these poor and lonely videos, which for whatever reason don't have that many downloads yet.

Here's some general advice on living and working in Japan to a friend from the learnjapanesepod.com forums.

Finally, rock out with me to the "Oshiri kajiri mushi" KARAOKE version!!

At the end of this podcast, there is a surprise announcement, but please listen to as much of it as you can bear before racing off to the finish. There are a lot of shout outs and an upcoming event that you should know about, if you are living and playing in Tokyo.

Just got a package from Daniel Boone Daniel of Deep Fried Pickle Project, and in it was his latest compilation of kids music. Much more on that later, however, I will point out now to any DFPP fans that NFTOS, this blog's podcast, is probably best NOT PLAYED for your children, and is generally not recommended for decent folk in general. Proceed at your own risk.

There are a lot of stats (some which I got wrong and then corrected), which might be a bit confusing in the third quarter of the podcast. You might want to fast forward through them. Here are the links:

1. Quest - That Ass Is Your Meal Ticket. 2. DJ Wes - Upcoming Events (back in 2006). 3. Jet Jaguar - News. 4. Jonny Heartbreaker - Baby. 5. Alex & Rob - ALT Rap (the .mp3, not the video). 6. Alex - Sunset Ramblings. 7. Alex - One Man Ramble. 8. Rob - ALT Rap vocal track (don't ask me why). 9. Rob - Panic Living #1. 10. Quest - All the Little Things.

The stats on Rob's YouTube, MySpace and Revver are self-explanatory. As are Alex's on YouTube and Revver. Other NFTOS crew members with videos includes FlyingOkha, Charlou2006 and Noisivelvet. Did we miss anyone?

This is an almost weekly audio podcast available on iTunes, and here it goes in video format for the first time! Today we are taking out the sodaigomi or large trash items. This requires calling the trash collectors in advance and paying a ridiculous amount of cash for them to haul it away. The items? Some hand-me-down speakers and the old sofa I've recorded many Panic Livings on, and where and where Alex and I have filmed quite a few NFTOS talk shows recently. It served us quite well, R.I.P. old couch.

I was still half asleep while recording this, and maybe still a bit drunk from a small house party the night before. After filming, I went back inside and slept till almost 2:00 p.m. The national holiday I mentioned was called "Seijin-no-hi," or "Coming of Age Day" as it is often transliterated. Everyone turning 20 this year celebrates by dressing up (girls in kimonos, boys in suits) and getting smashed. I'm sure if you search YouTube over the next couple of days, you can find many videos dedicated the festivities. I'll try to get the kanji for it, but i think it's: 成人の日. The legal (though not very strictly enforced) drinking age in Japan is 20.

Dochi ga hen? Which is the odd one?

This podcast opens with another track by Quest who would like to give a shout out to "all seeing eye bitches! This is a band that did some of the music for the movie 'Everything is Illuminated' which takes place in the Ukraine. The lead singer of the band is in the cast." Download some mp3s at gogolbordello.com

And the good morning greeting came from Nonoko courtesy of YouTube, or sans permission rather.

The podcast had the usual "T-Shirt of the Day" (although I might be repeating this one) and contains another train story. It closed with the usual haiku or two:

sense of completion
pervades gnawing hunger pangs
tokyo 3 AM

Running out of steam on a Thursday morning because I got up way too early, so I'm back on my futon...

(I posted this in a hurry, and as a result I'll need to listen to it again in order to give a better description of its full contents.)

A few mentions are in order though:

This podcast features a reading of Franz Kafka's "Poseidon" by Patrick Sheil, writer and frontman of Cambridge band Moth Conspiracy (www.mothconspiracy.net).

Closing music by Spoon via 4th of July on Lake Shore Drive (Chicago), a YouTube video from Mugtorte Please don't sue!

Was up early today and went hiking in Tsukuba, Ibarki Prefecture, a place which a student told me about yesterday. I took an express train from Akihabara which took approximately 45 minutes and then took a local bus (after a 30 minute wait) which took another 40 minutes...

In other news, it looks like I've deleted the banner again! I always do that when I'm trying to change certain Libsyn settings. Alex! Help...

Back from a grueling hike on Sado Island, I still have one day to recouperate before I have to go back to work, so let's panic living!

The show starts with T-shirt(s) of the day and closes with a haiku by me and a song by Charles Billard and human beatbox Takezo Aoki called E.T. Transe Techno performed live at Cafe Absinthe.

Watch the YouTube video in order to begin to fathom what Charles Billard's song is about--a song that I'm going to upload soon. I don't know much about it, but after listening to Charles' version twice and this one once, I can say it's kinda catchy. Is it the next Pokemon craze?

Recorded while relaxing at home after a morning ride through the Tokyo Imperial Garden (or whatever it's called).

Photo of a colleague's T-shirt which I believe came from UNIQLO and we suspected to be nonsense. As it turns out, Rickard Jäverling is a Swedish inde folk artist with an album titled Two Times Five Lullaby. Apparently he's been getting scrobbled quite often these days on last.fm. Maybe my co-worker was pulling my leg. 'Cos I'm a blonde, yeah, yeah, yeah! Posted by Rob.

Patrick writes:

"Hi Folks my radio show on 209radio.co.uk will be broadcast on Wednesday 19th September from 10-12pm - the graveyard shift for uk listeners and the breakfast show for those in Japan. If you can't listen live it will be available to stream from the website. There will be lots of music and poetry and some stories specially recorded by Cambridge writer Patrick Sheil. The show still needs a logo and I'm looking for all kinds of music and poetry for future shows so please send me your recordings. If you're a poet in Cambridge I can record you. Thanks to everyone who's already sent contributions - keep them coming.

In today's podcast I talk about a new tapas bar/restaurant in Kagurazaka (El Pulpo), an old one in Osaka (La Sevillana), the drinks at La Sevillana and the seafood served at El Pulpo, though I am no seafood expert in any language. The cicadas are warming up their engines--Japan loves its cicadas or "semi." Many a haiku has been writ [sic].

What else? The book I'm reading by Denis Johnson, "Jesus' Son," Lou Reed, bicycle racing (especially the Tour de France), keirin racing, Cerezo vs Verdy (tonight's match at Ajinomoto Stadium - check out the virtual cameras & mapping!), Dean and Urban Decay (NHM), Shonen Knife, Mt. Fuji, nature, vending machines on mountain tops, concrete-lined rivers, and just when I say I ain't got nuthin' to say, you're right, there's still a bit more!

Photo of Tokyo Panic Living Studios taken last night in Kagurazaka (or somewhere thereabouts). And no, I'm not on a diet, but that was in the fridge and just needed to be cleaned up! Will edit & add links later. Ben, I might edit part of what we recorded today and put it up tomorrow. And of course I meant Learn Japanese. Gomen ne! Gotta run!!

p.s. I realized a bit too late that not only did I have my Wednesday and Thursday schedules switched around, but that I hadn't paid my cell phone bill either. That meant I didn't send my usual e-mail invites out. Sorry if anyone was sitting around with nothing to and was just waiting for an excuse to go out!

Hey everyone, I recorded Panic Living #22 today, but there's not enough room on our account to upload it right now, so I just wanted to wish everyone a happy WHITE DAY! Really, there is such a thing here in Japan.

DJ El Gringo and possible special guest will be performing tonight at Bar Bonobo tonight (which is actually Wednesday, 14 March 2007, here in Tokyo at the moment). Click here for directions, a map and other details.

Shout outs to Ed Ovett who has a music podcast called Ed's Mixed Bag and to Steve Moore in Canada who has requested airplay on our music show! Alex and I should be recording a show tomorrow, so we'll check out your songs and choose one for the next show. Also, if we were supposed to play someone's song already, but haven't, please remind us! I had to put some of my files on an external hard drive--I'm sure those of you who know me well are surprised I know what such a thing is--so I might have to look for your .mp3 there. Finally, I got your latest song Peter. It's great, of course, and we'll include it in the next show or the one right after it.

Happy Valentine's Day from Tokyo Japan! They've got the same holidays over here, but they're just a little different... Example? Just listen to the podcast. I also talk a little about my top 5 favorite other podcast shows, and give updates on the NewsFromTheOtherSide group art show nama which will be held at The Pink Cow in Shibuya during the month of April. Just noticed DJ Sachiko's January schedule on mixi, and it looks like she has gigs coming up this month at Panorama in Shinmachi, Grand Cafe in Amerika-mura and at Sound Channel in Saiwaicho (all Osaka locations).

Another Panorama regular, DJ Handa has a new mix up on his downloads page, and it looks like he's still doing his Jack events, latest flyer is for an event at Sound Channel.

Also found a few posts by DJ Masevo on BikeClubOsaka.com. Check him out. I don't know why I'd never heard of him before, he seems to be quite popular already on his MySpace, huge actually!

Some of the coolest new music I've heard lately is by a Catalan band called La Troba Kung-fu, which is available here in Tokyo at Taiyo Record.

Finally, while listening to Pandora.com recently, I heard a remix of and old Tom Ze song "Defect2: Curiosidade" which you can find on Luaka Bop's Juke Box if you hit the remixes button. His new album Estudando O Pagode (studying Pagode) is in the Luaka Bop new releases section. Posted by Rob.

Just found out I have Friday off yesterday evening, so I'm packing my bags and taking the bullet train to Osaka this morning (the 28th here)! Got a special invite from the organizer of Space Odyssey 2007 himself, DJ TripleBypass, so how can I resist packing a few records? Who knows where I might show up during the next week. A bagful of records will mean a few free drinks and maybe even some food along the way! Posted by Rob.

Interested in next month's QuickFlickWorld at SuperDeluxe? Contact David: david@qfworld.tv. Tonight is the closing party for "Horumone" Sekine's exhibition "Amore Azzurro" at Bonobo. Wednesday nights are usually my DJ night there, but someone else will be DJing tonight, although I'll still be there for the party. See you there? In this podcast we also explore the dark side of the artist who calls herself Flying Koala. This darkness is starting to surface in her artwork, as you can see by the link to her homepage. It's a lovely day, Indian Summer? I have most of the day off, and don't work until 6:00 p.m. this evening, so it was about time for another solo podcast from the couch out on my veranda. Found a interesting book on gnosticism on the discarded books shelf at work, so that means all the other books I've been trying to finish have been put on hold yet again. Today's recommended link is a friend's homepage, Seaholm.com, created by someone who might be collaborating with us in the near future. There you'll find interesting artwork, music, photography and writing by the author. Check it out! Posted by Rob.

As of this podcast, we have now created 100 audio and/or video files to download! (*In this podcast I mistakenly called Talk Show #15 the 100th, when the 100th was actually this one. **Also, somewhere at around number 80, I failed to mention Panic Living #6 - "Earthquake!") Who are "we?" Well, that's a good question. Let's see, there are Makiko, David R., myself, plus several other collaborators and interviewees here in Tokyo, then there are Alex, Charles, Dan, Jerry, Patrick and more in Osaka, Okha (a.k.a. Flying Koala) in Seoul, Will Spin in the U.K. (London?), Noisivelvet in Chicago, Quest and Dirty Martini (a.k.a. DJ Kung-fu Grip) in Lincoln, Nebraska, Jim and my brother Hans (a.k.a. the h-monster) in Maryland. And those are just the creators of stuff that we've made available for iTunes. Did I miss anyone? If so, please accept our apology, and add your disappointed comments below. If you browse the weblog, you'll find all sorts of links to friends in Japan and in other places who are working on a wide array of fascinating projects. Tune in for the rest of the TOP 100! National Rain Appreciation Day, or whatever rainy national holiday it is today in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. Which holiday is it exactly? I have no idea, and neither do most Japanese people, because ancient holidays have been stripped of any original meaning and given politically correct names. It's pouring down rain, so i'm going to call this National Rain Appreciation Day, or just "NRA" for short. Posted by Rob.

I've gotten a bit behind with the podcasting due to being busy from my new job, but also because there's more going on than I'll ever be able to keep up with in Tokyo, and I've only just begun to be sucked into the vortex. This podcast, recorded 7 September 2006 on the sofa out on my veranda, focuses first on Noisivelvet's audio and visual works. Then on the upcoming NFTOS CD. Finally, do you wanna help organize a NFTOS art show? If you host it, we will come! Posted by Rob.

OOPS! I downloaded the wrong .mp3 file from my iRiver. I'll figure it out sooner or later. Just before I left for my bike ride this morning, "Kuro Neko" Yamato delivery dropped off a box from my former roommate in Osaka. How sweet & kind! I feel special and not yet forgotten. When I got back, Osaka-based Texan artist Raymond Dunlap called to tell me he'd received the copies of ZaBeat that I sent him yesterday--that was QUICK! When I got off the phone with him, I decided to google the man and see what I could find. There were quite a few interesting links, which merit being dug up and re-posted, so expect a few more links like this one soon: click! Wednesday and Thursday are my new weekend, so I'm going to kick back and take it easy for awhile, then maybe run some errands in Shibuya later in the afternoon, and maybe hang out at Taiyo Record for awhile. Not only have I noticed that I cough a lot once I started podcasting, but I've also begun to notice how much I say "basically" and "like." I'm going to try to pay more attention to that when I'm speaking. Posted by Rob.

Just got back from a jog. What's happening in Kagurazaka? I don't know. I was indoors all day, after having been away for a week, and there was a lot I had to get done. Once on the streets of Tokyo, however, a lot of sights and smells that had become ordinary were noticeable again. On the internet front, seanbedlam is losing it over on YouTube. I think that programs like 'Tube, just like anything on the internet, can be a blessing and/or a curse. What do you think about YouTube/Revver/MySpace? Elsewhere, rumors are ciraculating that the English poet Patrick Widdess has a podcast. I haven't come across it yet, but I've seen some of his photos online. We'll be talking to DJ Wes soon. Apparently, he's gotten himself a computer and internet. We're going to get him on Skype and then get him addicted to podcasting too! Tomorrow, I'll be DJ'ing at Loop Line Cafe in Sendagaya as a warm-up for the main course, Sunday's event at the Institut Franco-Japonais in Ichigaya. I Should be at Loop Line between 12-6 p.m. More will be posted on all the above soon! Your comments, audio and visual responses welcome! Posted by Rob.

12 July, Downtown Tokyo, workin' for the man, I came across a demonstration by tunnel workers demanding compensation for their (work related?) health problems. Today, it actually made front page of the Japan Times (English newspaper). 13 July, while walking home from the station after work, I melted into the asphalt as a light summer rain pitter-pattered and failed to cool.

Rob addresses the lazy artists of Osaka and responds to an email from a viewer.  This was a video by Makiko that was taken down before too many people saw it.  Part of the process of trial and error.
