Our banner art was created by Okha Ryu (a.k.a. "Flying Koala") of Seoul, Korea, who has been a member of the News From The Other Side art & culture crew since 2001! Apparently, this banner is just a rough draft, and she says the real thing will be ready soon. Okha has participated with me (Rob) in several art shows in Osaka and she organized the first NFTOS art show in Seoul in 2004. Besides being a clever artist, she seems to speak Japanese better and better each time she comes to Osaka for a visit. (update 2/13) A bunch of us went to Basement Bar in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, to catch Osaka band Argyle in action. They were playing at two different venues on Saturday, and we went to the earlier of the two shows. They were traveling with a new drummer who played most of the songs with sheet music, except for the encore which he had to improvise. He did pretty well for himself, and we all agreed that they rocked! Argyle's next gig will be March 20th at the Barbes Anniversary Party held in Club Noon, Umeda. Check out Argyle's website for more upcoming events.
