In this podcast Just talked to Hans this morning (here in Tokyo) and did a mini recap of the Omloop Het Volk / Het Nieuwsblad / Ghent-Ghent / whatever you want to call it. Direct download: http://media.libsyn.com/media/newsfromtheotherside/2010_Het_Volk.mp3 Before the race, Boonen tipped Flecha for the win! How did he know? In the post race wrap-up Tyler Farrar and Scott Sunderland (Sky's DS) seemed quite fluent in Flemmish, while Flecha and Haussler did their interviews in English. Flecha dedicated his win to Frank Vandenbrouke (RIP), which I'm sure was popular with the Belgian fans.
Live video streaming for K-B-K Got the streaming to work quite well with several different links to Belgian TV station Sporza ( via http://www.cyclingfans.com/node/644 and http://www.steephill.tv/semi-classics-live/ ) yesterday. So those links should work again for K-B-K. Bicicleteiros on Twitter #KuurneBrusselKuurne Bicicleteiros picks: (Hans) Óscar Freiere, (Rob) Tom Boonen, (Pete) Leif Hoste. Who do you pick? The above video is a fan video of the 2009 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (previously Het Volk, also known as the Gent-Gent), won by Thor Hushovd, and of the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, won by Tom Boonen. Our audio was kinda crap for our planned main recording, with Hans' audio a bit delayed at first, then finally dropping out completely near the end. Because of this, I've posted a recording of our chit-chat afterwards, when we were trying to sort out who was actually going to be riding the two weekend classics, as our main podcast. For the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Hans picks Heinrich Haussler (8th in 2009 Omloop, 2nd Milano-San Remo) and Rob picks Edvald Boassen Hagen (1st at 2009 Gent-Wevelgem). For Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, Hans picks Óscar Freiere (1st at 2008 Gent-Wevelgem) and Rob picks Tom Boonen (1st at 2009 K-B-K, 1st at 2009 Paris-Roubaix). Listners' picks, (HBR - Team Aves) "Omloop Het Nieuwsblad: Beppu dark horse, but with go with Leif Hoste! (2nd at 2003 K-B-K, 2nd at 2007 Ronde van Vlaanderen) haha. hope he doesn't work to hard for Gilbert! Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne: Bernhard Eisel*(2nd at 2009 Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne)< Think he scored high last year in this race." *(It appears that Bernhard Eisel is not on the starting list for K-B-K, so we'll let you flip-flop your picks, and we'll give it to you anyway if Leif Hoste wins the Omloop, 'cos we're cool like that.) The second song to be uploaded to NFTOS this year is from Patrick's brother Will. This track contains a sample from "The Legend of Old Greg," an episide of the Mighty Boosh (1/3 of which is shown above). It is actually through this song that I found out about The Mighty Boosh in the first place, and not the other way around... Believe it, or not! Notice: Watching it may either enhance or ruin the track for you. (Wink face) I first heard it awhile back on his brother Patrick's music and spoken word show "A Harmless Podcast." You might be familiar with Patrick's FM radio show Headstand, on Cambridge's 209radio, excerpts of which are available as a podcast at http://headstand.podomatic.com/. Will made his first NFTOS appearance with his song "Smile Face," which was featured on Music From The Other Side #4. Posted by Rob. The above is a video by Trek-Livestrong rider Ben King (the American one, not the Aussie) from the Tours of Qatar & Oman. Here we go again! With all the latest gossip in pro cycling as well as special edition Winter Olympic coverage! Only God can judge us! Well, okay, I suppose the relevant authorities can too, if they deem it necessary, and so can you, and I guess there's nothing we can do about that. As it is still winter in Japan* and in the much of the rest of the Northern Hemisphere as well (that is, if you believe the world is indeed round, of course). In the spirit of winter, here is a crazy video I took out by the Tone (say 'Toh-neh') River in Chiba. Are these fixies or just single-speeds with freewheels? I wasn't paying close enough attention, but trying to get it on film rather. Posted by Rob. *P.S. "In Japan, we have four seasons." I am often informed. "How many seasons do you have in your country?"
